Gift Guide for Kids

If your kids are anything like mine, this holiday gift guide for kids should include Scotch Tape, old remote controls and anything in the recycling container. Yet somehow Santa (and Grandma) still feel the need to deliver toys to the little people.

This kid’s holiday guide includes our favorites plus some things on their wish list. My kids are 4 and 1 so this is definitely for the younger crowd! I’m serious on the trash and old remotes though. Hot items!

Gift Ideas for young kids! Toys that will actually get played with!

Our play kitchen and food are some of the most used items. We got this kitchen for Clark when he was 1. It’s held up so well the 3 years we’ve had it. My kiddos have whipped up many delicious (and appalling) combinations in this kitchen. I highly recommend the dinnerware set. Pretend food is so much more fun when it can be served up to Mom & Dad. Both of my babies have LOVED these eggs. They’re great for fine motor skills and learning colors!

The top item on my 4 year old’s list is a “toy vacuum with a hose”. We already own another vacuum but this one has a hose attachment. VERY important stuff. The two Melissa & Doug cleaning sets are another of our most used toys. Many a mess has been cleaned up with these tools. Also my windows have never been cleaner. (That’s a lie. They’re disgusting.) I added the laundry play set to their wish list even though they will still probably prefer mine. Kids, man.

The following are toys that even my remote loving kids will play with for long periods of time (the one year old still needs close supervision with the Lincoln Logs but loves the rest, especially the car carrier!)

Clark was afraid of stuffed animals for the longest time but Margo is really liking them. I’m obsessed with the Hazel Village animals. Each of my children has one that I used in their monthly photos. They’re a total splurge but SO CUTE! They are so well made and definitely a doll that can be passed down! We are actually short on baby dolls in our house (because SOFT THINGS ARE SCARY) so Santa may need to deliver in this department. Margo is very into this baby and pushing her around in a stroller.

We spend a lot of time outdoors. The most popular item in our home is this scooter (don’t forget a helmet!). We’re trying to embrace the outdoors more this Winter (I LOATHE THE COLD). When Clark asked to scooter in the 30 degree weather last week, I let him. The scooter may need a snow blade. The bubble machine is always a hit. Tiny tools are adorable and very practical. A Mom win. We have a water table but I have my eye on this waterfall wall. It looks easier to maintain and has more playing room.

I need to do a whole post on my favorite kid books but here are 4 of our favorites. I mean, Jim Panzee is arguably the best character name of all time.

Happy Santa shopping!
