Dirt, Mulch, and Paint

Yesterday I spent the day covered in dirt, mulch, and paint.  Pretty.

Which would explain why you don’t see many posts like this on the ol’ blog.

We did some major clean-up in our yard.  It needed a good weeding, new annuals, and fresh mulch.

I planted red geraniums in pots from Crate and Barrel (2 seasons ago)….

Petunias line the walk-way to the front door.  We love petunias because as long as we water them, they grow.  Easy enough.  I’ve learned to plant them sparingly because they quickly take over.

All of the flower beds/island received a fresh coat of mulch…

Now we’re all set for summer…

We still need to purchase some plants for the back side of the house.  The area is morning sun/shade and we do have deer in our back yard that think our plants are a good midnight snack.  We get very indecisive every time we step into Lowe’s and end up walking away empty handed.

Does anyone have any favorite shade plants?  Suggest away!!

What’s your favorite annual? Perennial? Petunias and hydrangeas are at the top of my list!!

As for the paint, I’ll hopefully share that with you tomorrow!

STRIPE MANIA

I love stripes.  I also love blogging.

When on I saw this post over at decor8, I knew I had to participate.  Who can pass up a #Stripe Mania party?? Plus I had planned to wear this dress to a birthday party this week-end so it was perfect timing!

They said to accessorize.  Check out that belt and earrings. I’m a total fashionista! :P

I also just received this purse in the mail on Friday.  My first Etsy purchase and I’m in love.  It’s darling.  I’m not into designer handbags. I prefer cute unique bags like this.

There you have it.  Me in stripes.  A fashion post on Decor and the Dog.  Don’t worry, there won’t be many more of these because my house is better dressed than I am.

Participating in this party is super easy except for the fact that I don’t really get Twitter.  I blame it on my old age.  You can follow me @decorandthedog and teach me all about this tweeting bizness.

Be sure to let me know if you participate so I can check out your stripey attire!

Happy Sunday!  Must get to being productive…gloomy day and all!

A Stroll Down Memory Lane- Basement Walls/1st Floor

Let’s take another stroll down memory lane and check out where we were on our house building process 3 years ago…

3 Years Ago Last Week

(since I skipped it while we were on vacay): We had basement walls!

And the start of the basement ceiling/first floor…

This was a very exciting week for us.  We had waited an entire month just to see a hole in the ground.  In one week we had an entire framed basement.  This progress was extremely promising!

3 Years Ago This Week

: We had the start of a first floor!

The start of the dining room…very exciting!  The original plans did not call for the large picture window facing west. The people we worked with to design the house strongly discouraged it because it limited the amount of furniture we could place in the room. I knew I wanted to paint the dining room a dark color and we wanted all of the natural light we could get in the room so I went with my gut.  It turned out to be a great decision (pats self on back).

The garage walls also went up!

And the walkway to our master bedroom on the first floor was started.  Do you like the openness of our living room at this point??? So breezy…

Ike approved of the building progress….check out that tail wag!

Let us know if you have any questions regarding the process (be sure to leave your e-mail or make sure your profile has your e-mail listed!) or if you have any questions about what’s going on in any of the photos!
