Black and White Cross Quilt

Black and White Cross Quilt

I was going to apologize for the amount of baby crap about to hit this blog.  I won't though.  I don't know what it is but once there's a fetus inside of you, you can only think about babies.  What do I do with a newborn?  How do I find a pediatrician?  Where shall my baby hang once I go back to work? What are good developmental toys for babies? How exactly does breastfeeding work?  It's like a whole other world that I know nothing about and I'm all about information.  All of these questions leave little time for other human related things.  So long story long, I'm currently only capable of talking about baby junk.  Trust me, it's sort of equally annoying to me too.

Not only am I growing a human but a ton of my close friends are too.  Our hangouts have all turned to baby talk.  I swore this day would never happen.  And it has.  I'm totally still holding strong on my anti-mini van stance though.

My best friend is expecting her little boy about 6 weeks before ours is to arrive.  I asked her if she would like a quilt.  Of course she picked out a quilt that I wasn't exactly sure how to tackle but was extremely cute and stylish.  There are reasons why we're friends.  She had her eyes on a black and white cross quilt.

Cookies and Cream Cupcakes

Cookies and Cream Cupcakes

Today I have my pregnancy glucose test.  In honor of that, I would like to share a recipe for Cookies and Cream cupcakes.  Makes sense, no?

Pre-pregnancy I had a MAJOR sweet tooth.  Since becoming pregnant, I haven't wanted sweets as much.  Note, the "as much".  Donuts and chocolate chip cookie dough shakes from Whiteys (our favorite local ice cream shop) have made the list of favorite cravings.  But I only indulge in them about once a week or so.  My co-workers were beginning to complain about the lack of baked goods coming from my kitchen.  There were three work birthdays this past week so I decided I should probably take one for the team and whip up a batch of cupcakes. For this recipe, I combined my favorite cupcake recipe and doctored up a favorite frosting recipe. They were a hit. Here's how to make your own!

Chicago Weekend

Chicago Weekend

Everyone's favorite question for me lately is "How's the nursery coming?"  The answer is "It's not.  It looks the same as we last left it on the blog."  Why?  BECAUSE WE'RE NEVER HOME.  Last week, however, we did manage to find day care AND a pediatrician.  SO BACK UP OFF US.  The nursery is on the to-do list the next few weekends.  Of which we are mostly home.  Mostly.

The weekend before last we went to Chicago with my parents.  My dad had free Cubs tickets and we're always looking for an excuse to head to the Windy City.

How To Build a Grill Cart {The Home Depot DIY Workshop}

*Today's post is brought to you by The Home Depot*

After a long Winter (aren't they always long in Iowa?), we have finally reached grilling season!  It's time to slap some burgers and brats on the grill and enjoy with friends and family.  When it's not down-pouring that is (we can't win!).

A few weeks ago I mentioned I would be attending the DIY Workshop at The Home Depot in Des Moines.  In the mean time, Nate and I were busy whipping up our customized version of the grill cart.  In true Nate and Michelle fashion we made it harder than it needed to be.  Go team!

DIY Personalized Graphic Sign

DIY Personalized Graphic Sign

Happy Monday! I can't believe it's June already.  Nate, Ike and I are looking forward to a Summer full of fun.

I finally feel like I've broke out of the pregnancy fog I've been in.  I've had a good burst of energy the past couple of weeks and my creative juices are finally flowing again.

Over the weekend I completed a sign for our console table. This console table has sat empty since removing our holiday marquee and it's emptiness made our house feel a little blah.  I've had an idea for a sign for over a year but just never got around to it. Until now.

Project Nursery: Round 1

Project Nursery: Round 1

You know when you write a really long blog post about the start of your kid's nursery and then you hit save and it freezes and loses your entire post even though it's supposed to at least save some as you go?  Yeah, I wouldn't know about that either.  Oh, wait.  So this post will probably have less words (probably better) and more run on sentences (Probably worse. Eh.)

Anywho, we started this nursery this weekend!  My parents were kind enough to come down and help with some DIY projects around the house.  I felt bad that they were painting my nursery Sunday morning while I was making breakfast but I figured homemade biscuits and gravy and growing their first grandchild would be a fair enough trade for them.  (THANK YOU PARENTAL UNITS.)

The room we chose for the nursery is one that hasn't been seen here much on the blog. Mainly because it looked like this.

Delicious Grilled Pizza + DIY Pizza Stone

Delicious Grilled Pizza + DIY Pizza Stone

Man. Monday already?  Where do the weekends go?  I need a time machine.  Not one that takes you back in time but one that gives you MORE time.  We enjoyed a busy weekend.  Part of it was spent in Des Moines hanging with friends and family.  The other half was spent getting our yard ready for Summer.  A good mix of fun and productivity!

We have been enjoying some pretty decent Spring weather in Iowa.  Spring for us means the start of grilling season!  We were super excited to eat our first grilled pizza of the season.
