Housekeeping and Love

Housekeeping and Love

So I was totally going to finish up our Maui trip today.  And then I realized that we are having a garage sale tomorrow and I should probably get my act together.  Hold on to the edge of your seats for Monday's Maui finale.  Stop by our house tomorrow to buy our crap.  I mean find yourselves some treasures.

Today I'd like to do a little blog housekeeping.  I announced the winners of the Mohawk Rug giveaway and the Paisley Print Boutique giveaway.  Were you a lucky winner?

Maui Part One: Road to Hana

Maui Part One: Road to Hana

Aloha again! Beings Nate and I spent the last week and a half exploring Maui, we have zero projects to share.  But who doesn't want to see other people's vacation photos? I personally love vacation photos.

Nate and I explored almost the entire island of Maui.  We passed on a couple of stretches of road that would void our rental car agreement.  Pansies.

One of our days was spent traveling the Road to Hana. The drive is popular in Maui because there is so much to see and do. The trip is only about 50 miles but it's on a narrow two lane road with lots of one lane bridges.  I almost forgot the estimated 600 turns in the road.  The reviews made us think this road was sketchy and that I would be barfing my motion-sick little brains out.  I popped a Bonine and we hit the road with Nate behind the wheel.

Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie

Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie

I've confessed my love for the cast iron skillet in the past.  (Here are our past cast iron skillet recipes: Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Skillet CookieBlackberry Cobbler or cheesy hashbrowns.)  Somehow I have never shared our all time favorite, the chocolate chip skillet cookie.

We could also name this recipe  "Oh crap, I need to bring treats tomorrow".  It's delicious.  The recipe whips up quickly but seems fancy.  The cookie bakes in the cast iron skillet that has already cooked delicious bacon and cheesy hashbrowns.  So much flavor.  The cookie has a slight crunch on the edges but a super soft middle.  The skillet cookie is both Nate and I's favorite type of Chocolate Chip cookie.  And we are Chocolate Chip cookie connoisseurs.

Then and Now- Powder Room

Then and Now- Powder Room

Happy Monday!  Hope your weekend was fabulous.  Nate and I have been hanging in Maui since last Wednesday so our weekend was, of course, amazing.  How could it not be?  It's Maui.

Beings not much new is happening on the home front, let's continue our Then and Now series.  (Check out our living roomkitchen and master bathroom!)

You may remember that our powder room looks like this.  You also may not remember this because we haven't touched this room since 2011.  Crazy.

Mango, Lime and Black Bean Salsa Salad

Mango, Lime and Black Bean Salsa Salad

Today I'd like to share with you one of our favorite warm weather recipes.  It was a beautiful 80 degree day last week when we whipped up this Mango, Black Bean and Lime Salsa Salad.

Why the name salsa salad?  Because I'm just not sure what to call this.  It's sort of a salsa.  Sort of a salad.  It's like last week when I was in line at Subway.  The lady in front of me said she wanted a salad.  The Subway employee asked if she'd like lettuce or spinach.  The lady said "Neither."  The employee asked "So, you want a salad without lettuce or spinach."  The lady said "Yes."  Long story short (not a short wait in line) her "salad" was chicken breast, tomatoes and ranch dressing. Oy.  So it's sort of like this recipe.  A salad without lettuce or spinach.

Then and Now- Master Bathroom

Then and Now- Master Bathroom

Happy Monday!  I was hoping to have an office update but the weather did not cooperate yesterday.  A dark gloomy day makes photographing a dark room extra difficult.  Hopefully on Wednesday.

Today we'll continue the Then and Now series where we travel back in time and watch our house/style evolve.  (Check out the living room and kitchen if you've missed them!)

You may remember that we recently "remodeled" our bathroom.  We added some vertical subway tile behind the sink areas and updated the mirrors and lighting.  Bam.  Grown up bathroom.

Then and Now- Kitchen

Then and Now- Kitchen

Are you ready to travel back in time again?  I'm continuing the Then and Now series where we travel all the way back to 2008 and watch our house become a grown up.

I love our kitchen so very much.  There is honestly very little that I would change about the space.  It functions well.  There is plenty of storage and prep space.  It looks pretty.  What more could a girl want?  Well, besides a chef to cook for her in this kitchen.  Wait, I'll have that once tax season is over. I kid. Sort of.

Let me tell you all a little secret.  Our kitchen didn't always look like this. Let's head back to our kitchen circa 2008.  You know, back when I struggled to cook Kraft Mac n' Cheese.  Back before we owned a DSLR.

Most of you recognize our kitchen as this.
