Then and Now- Master Bathroom

Happy Monday!  I was hoping to have an office update but the weather did not cooperate yesterday.  A dark gloomy day makes photographing a dark room extra difficult.  Hopefully on Wednesday.

Today we'll continue the Then and Now series where we travel back in time and watch our house/style evolve.  (Check out the living room and kitchen if you've missed them!)

You may remember that we recently "remodeled" our bathroom.  We added some vertical subway tile behind the sink areas and updated the mirrors and lighting.  Bam.  Grown up bathroom.

Let's see how this process all started.  We started using a basic plan we found online (left below).  We had a few requirements that the plan did not meet.  We wanted a walk in shower and a clawfoot tub.  We wanted either a double sink or separate sink areas beings we get ready for work and bed at the same time.  (And neither of us shares well.)  We wanted a separate area for the toilet because we totally have a strict "no observing the excreting of waste" policy.  We ended up with our plan on the right.

This is what the bathroom looked like way back in 2008.  Pretty, no?

Then the whole dry wall thing happened.  Slowly.  The installation was super painful.  It took them approximately 3 years to dry wall our house.  I think their hours were like 10am-1pm.  With an hour lunch.  You think I'm being funny.   I'm not.  At least that's how I remember the story.

We hired out the tile work.  In retrospect, we could have totally done this.  At the time there were way too many things to accomplish before we could move in and our DIY skills were limited.  I think we'd both still hire it out if we had to do it again because tiling takes forever.

We did install the clawfoot tub and cabinets ourselves.  Nate made it very clear that the tub is staying in the bathroom.  Something about it being heavy.  It's going nowhere because I'm in love.

We must have become bored or busy at this stage of the game because the photos are lacking.  Our master bathroom looked like this shortly after moving in.

Awww, bee-bee Ike.

In 2011 we added some trim to the mirrors.  We also spray painted the cabinet hardware black (which held up surprisingly well).  (Read that post here.)  (I also love watching our photography progression.  WHITE BALANCE.)

I got bored and painted the feet of our tub black.  (I was also into weird vignetting in 2011 too.  Awesome.)

In 2013 we decided to class things up.  We added subway tile behind both sinks.  We went vertical with it to keep things interesting.  We added new lights, mirrors, faucets and hardware.

You're probably wondering how Ike felt about the upgrades.

He loves them, of course!

Like the kitchen, this room is complete.  Our only plans for this room are to keep it clean!
