Painted Office Built-ins
/Happy Monday! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend. I've been eating my way through Austin, TX and it has been quite fabulous. I've also enjoyed not wearing a winter coat! I'm excited to explore more of Texas in the week to come. I do miss the furry faced dudes in my life but there is more to see and eat before I return!
Before I left, I did a little work on the ol' never ending office. We last left with the office looking like this.
The walls were painted SW Thunder Grey. The burlap had been removed from the back of the shelves and the whole thing was ready for a little paint.
I was super nervous to paint the back of the shelving area. I know paint isn't permanent but it's kind of a pain in the rear to paint over things. I'm also a messy painter and I didn't want to ruin our new-ish built-ins. My fears subsided after I gave the area two coats of SW Fawn Brindle.
Nate and I had a very technical approach to picking the color. We walked into Sherwin Williams and held up a few greige colors next to the Thunder Grey. Fawn Brindle isn't my favorite paint name (I'm that person) but it is a super pretty color. I kind of want to paint a whole room with it but I'm running out of rooms in the ol' house.
You may have noticed that I forgot to paint the little area under the desk area. Oops. These are the kinds of things that I do on a regular basis. The day I stop doing stupid stuff is the day I will begin to worry something isn't right in my life.
I had thought about leaving the area painted the old color but I decided that would probably be tacky or something. Not quite as tacky as all of those computer cords but sometimes you have to live with dude stuff.
Nate and I both thought that we needed to go darker behind the monitors as well. We hoped that painting the bead board dark would help the monitors blend a bit better. I'd whine about the monitors but I've recently discovered how fabulous they are. I had pondered using the Fawn Brindle but really thought the Thunder Grey would hide the monitors better. Now I wish that both monitors are black. But don't tell Nate.
Here's how we ended the week.
I'm liking where this is headed. All that's left is to style the shelves. We also need to find a chair that Nate and I can agree on that is also in our budget. We got this. (No we don't.)
Ike is digging the office's new look. Mainly because he likes to hang out in this room. Until you shut the door. He then will want out. Until you close the door behind him and then he'll want in. He leads a complicated life.
And because we all love a good before and almost after. Here's what our office looked like a year ago. It's crazy what a little paint can do!
Or how about we go back two years. There are pharmacy and accounting books on those shelves. Yikes.
One of my favorite things about writing a blog is watching our style evolve. At least that's how I explain my never ending need for change to the ol' husband.
Painted anything terrifying lately? Got any chair recommendations?
