Dare to DIY: Be Thankful {Crazy Thankful Sign}
/Happy Monday! I'm usually not uber excited about Mondays but today is especially fun beings it's the start of Dare to DIY 2014!
This week's dare was to be thankful. Shift Ctrl Art is hosting the party this week where there sure to be a ton of inspirtion. Be sure to check out the awesome projects by Maybe Matilda and NewlyWoodwards as well!
I recently saw this sign at the Magnolia Market. I'm slightly obsessed with the show Fixer Upper and Joanna's style. Beings imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I decided to make a knock off sign. I'm crazy excited with how it turned out.
Emphasis on the crazy.
I have a ridiculous amount to be thankful for and this sign is a great reminder of that.
This sign was surprisingly easy to whip up. (I am thankful that I finished on time (beings I started yesterday afternoon) and that there were no tears involved while making this sign.)
I started with a 16x16 piece of wood that was hanging in our garage. (I'm thankful I have a plethora of scrap lumber in my garage for crazy blog projects.) I applied a quick coat of some light stain that I'm too lazy to look to see the name of. I then applied some decorative nails along two edges. (I am thankful I didn't whack my finger with the hammer.) I followed by brushing on some strokes of black paint and then quickly wiping away with a paper towel. This helped give the board a nice aged look. I also applied a little black to the nails. I let the paint sit on the nails for a couple of minutes before wiping most of it off.
While my board was drying, I cut out some vinyl with my Silhouette. (You could also paint this using this tutorial.)
At first I was bummed I didn't make this sign earlier so I would have longer to display it. But then I liked it so much I think it could potentially stay up year round!
It's easy to forget about the 'ol Thanksgiving these days. This sign will be a nice reminder to stop and think about all of those things that are so very wonderful in our lives. Like you all. I'm not really into that whole cheesy "love you guys" stuff but seriously, thanks for reading my ramblings here at the Decor and the Dog. Nate, Ike and I love your comments/emails/support! Happy Thanksgiving!
Now it's time to party! Head on over to Shift Ctrl Art to share your thankful project. Katja is expecting you. I can't wait to see what you all came up with. Don't forget to start working on your Dare to Entertain project for next week!
