Big Boy Birthday Party (First Birthday Party)

Big Boy Birthday Party (First Birthday Party)

I warned Nate going into this whole parenting thing that everything I mother turns out to be a little quirky

Exhibit A: Ike.

Exhibit B: Our baby's favorite "toy" is an old Bob's Big Boy Burger bank.  Out of all of the toys in his nursery, his favorite thing to look at/play with is Big Boy.  "Big Boy" was even one of his first set of words. He only said it in a whisper which made it even more hilarious.

Clark's Nursery: Part 1

Clark's Nursery: Part 1

Now that Clark is almost 2 months old (Where does time go? Seriously.), it's probably about time to share his nursery.  During my pregnancy I was all worried that we wouldn't finish in time.  Our baby would totally think we were failures because we didn't have a room ready for him. Turns out he could care less.  Babies are weird like that.

I'm breaking the nursery posts into two parts.  There are lots of pictures and we spent a lot of time in here.  One post didn't seem to do it justice.  My gerbil attention span also does better these days if things are broken into segments.

Navy and White Herringbone Quilt

Navy and White Herringbone Quilt

Something unbelievable has happened!  I finished our little dude's quilt before his arrival.  This is huge for a procrastinator like myself.

Picking out which quilt I wanted to make took a good month.  This was quite the decision.  I ultimately decided on a herringbone pattern.  I like that herringbone has both modern and vintage properties.  Or at least that's what I tell myself.  Next up was the ever difficult color decision.  I wanted the quilt to be part of the nursery but I also want to use it for his monthly photos. There are so many decisions in parenting already.  As you can see navy, white and green won.

Black and White Cross Quilt

Black and White Cross Quilt

I was going to apologize for the amount of baby crap about to hit this blog.  I won't though.  I don't know what it is but once there's a fetus inside of you, you can only think about babies.  What do I do with a newborn?  How do I find a pediatrician?  Where shall my baby hang once I go back to work? What are good developmental toys for babies? How exactly does breastfeeding work?  It's like a whole other world that I know nothing about and I'm all about information.  All of these questions leave little time for other human related things.  So long story long, I'm currently only capable of talking about baby junk.  Trust me, it's sort of equally annoying to me too.

Not only am I growing a human but a ton of my close friends are too.  Our hangouts have all turned to baby talk.  I swore this day would never happen.  And it has.  I'm totally still holding strong on my anti-mini van stance though.

My best friend is expecting her little boy about 6 weeks before ours is to arrive.  I asked her if she would like a quilt.  Of course she picked out a quilt that I wasn't exactly sure how to tackle but was extremely cute and stylish.  There are reasons why we're friends.  She had her eyes on a black and white cross quilt.

Old Wives' Tales and Gender Prediction

Old Wives' Tales and Gender Prediction

So I'm a total sucker for Old Wives' tales and other superstitious things.  You better believe I'm all over the gender prediction tales for this pregnancy.  I initially needed to know RIGHT NOW what we are having.  And then I became all cool with not knowing and even questioned finding out!  We've weighed the pros and cons and we've decided we are going to find out.  I'll share the results on Monday if baby cooperates.  In the mean time, let's rely on the super reliable Old Wives' tales.

This stuff fascinates me. I mean, where does some of this stuff come from?  I am leaving out some of the more popular ones that include urinating on Draino or keeping pee soaked cabbage in your fridge over night.  Because gross.  And dangerous.
